NewSpace has radically changed the way space projects are conceived. This new approach, with its emphasis on lower costs, shorter lead-times and faster technological development, facilitates access to space and the diversification of protagonists.
However, the majority of scientific nanosatellite project leaders are experiencing staggering difficulties, in total contradiction with the very stakes of NewSpace. The budget structure, made up of multiple small grants with highly variable conditions and timetables, and creating permanent uncertainty over projects, inevitably leads to longer development times and often a drop in ambition.
This is why, in its forward-looking document sent to CNES and CNRS, the Fédération Nanosats fervently supports the need for a specific national program for scientific nanosatellites, with a recurrent budget managed by CNES.
